Should I set up a group or an event page on facebook

I am organizing a large charity event in which participants are grouped together for six weeks preparation. I am planning on setting up a facebook page on which people can follow the teams progress in the upcoming weeks to the event and the participants can partake in banter taunts etc. My question is should I set up a page in which people can "like it", set up a group where people join, set up a page as a person in which "friends" are added or set up an event page for the actually event or should I set up and event page and one of the other options??

I plan to try create as much hype as I can in the coming weeks to the event so any opinions on what I can do here would be greatly appreciated and of course suggestions of creating hype other than facebook is greatly welcome..

I join more like pages than actual friend request pages. Mainly because I can like and then start chatting away straight away rather than waiting for the friend request to be confirmed.

I'd recommend a page! NEVER set up a personal profile to promote a company, organisation or event as you are both breaching FB's terms of use and you are restricting your reach.

Group Vs Page = You only have to 'like' a page but joining a group implies more involvement and most people won't join.

Use the page to attract the public and then use it to give updates as the 6 weeks goes by - status updates, video, photos etc. Get all your particants who are on FB to 'like' it and and make sure that they invite all their friends to like it. You can create an event that will be associated with the page.

I wouldn't set up separate pages for each team as it then dilutes your effort across many pages.

You could also look at buying FB adverts to support the above if you have the budget.

How about a group for your participants (perhaps a private group) this will allow you all communicate with each about the project privately and helps keep everybody up to date.

I agree a group and event page are fine, there's no point setting up a personal page.
