black/off black tights or skin coloured?

I think it might be a bit two short for a irish wedding, if it was a beach wedding in the sunny climate you'd get away with it.

TBH - it's a bit too short. I've been at a few weddings recently where some of the younger women have worn short dresses. It just doesn't look right in the church or during the daytime.

It's a bit short TBH. It's a wedding not a night on the pull!! Just my 2c

While it's a ncie dress, I'd say it's a little short for a wedding, especially an Irish wedding at this time of the year. I ended up wearing a 'short' dress to a December wedding (long story, got stranded with the snow (couldn't get home) and it was the only dress I had with me), but it was just above the knee, and far from mid thigh.

What height are you OP? The model in those pics is 5'10" and is wearing high heels (I don't know her height is 5'10" with or without the heels) so if you aren't as tall as the model, the dress will probably look longer on you so you may get away with it.

But if your the same height as or taller than the model then I wouldn't wear that dress, tbh. And if your wearing high heels it will make the dress look shorter.

    There are loads of website you can look for dress, here's a few;

I am 5'7 so be 3 inches longer on me but in saying that it would probably still be a tad bit too short. I plan on wearing heels and as you said it will look shorter. Think i've my mind made up its not a dress for this occasion

Thanks a million for the links to all those websites i will check them out later.

    Thanks again everyone

I'm 5" 7 and wore a short lipsy dress to a wedding in the summer, the dress looked roughly the same length on me as it did on the model, I have a long body so nearly all dresses look short on me....There was a few people who wore shorter dresses than me though so it was fine :)

I dont see anything wrong with it. the design is quite girly so dont think it looks tarty or anything....but if you're having doubts about it now then you prob wont be comfortable and that's the most important thing. You dont want to spend the whole day worrying that you dont look right!

I think it's gorgeous, You could wear a shawl and some great black heels. I think it's quite classy looking.

Exactly, if the dress was tarty looking it would be a different story but it's not so it would be lovely!

It barely covers her backside, too short

I was in a hotel recently while there was a wedding on. The guests had to pass us on their way to dinner which was great for people watching :) Loads of girls there were wearing dresses like that with black tights. The length wasn't a problem as the tights kind of tamed that bit down, but heavy black tights on the bottom half with a strapless dress looked really stupid. The girls were all orange too on the top half but dressed for winter on the bottom - looked ridiculous.

Really nice dress though but probably not for this time of year or a wedding.

With black tights you'd be grand, otherwise too short. I'd aim for one just above knee

I think its a bit on the short side, not really 'church' appropriate. To be honest though, I'd be more worried about the colour. It looks off-white/cream in the photos, kinda goes against the 'don't wear white to a wedding' rule of thumb.

It's far too short for a wedding, and I agree with the poster above - the colour isn't suitable either.

I've seen this dress in the shops and it's a pinky blush colour. If you do decide to wear it i wouldn't dream of teaming it with black tights!!!!

It's a lovely dress but I'd say more appropriate for a summer wedding.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭CaliforniaDream

The only issue I would see with it is it's strapless AND short.
I think the length is fine if it were more covered on top or vice versa. Most shawls/cardigans don't stay on the full day.

Lovely dress but perhaps more suited to another occasion.

It is too short and too pale.

I think the dress is fine for a summer wedding.I am not sure about next month though. I was at a wedding last June and plenty of people wearing short dresses with pashmina or shawl for church. The only concern I would have is the colour. If it is pink, it would be fine but I personally would not wear a cream dress to a wedding. That's just my opinion though.Up to you now:)

Not trying to hijack this thread but what do people think of wearing a full length black chiffon maxi dress to a summer wedding? It's very light chiffon with no sleeves and a bronzey/ orange sequined neckline.

It's like the Catherine Malandrino Beaded silk maxi dress in this link:
    http://www.clothes-fashion.com/2010/07/cocktail-and-party-dresses-collection.html

but black with orange sequins. Could I get away with it with bright accessories?

    Thanks for input!

Maxi dresses are very summery - irrespective of colour. If the neckline is sufficiently sparkly/colourful, then I don't see any problems with that all.

That model is probably close to six foot though, it wouldn't be so bum-skimming on a girl of average height. Regardless, I think it's a lovely dress and if you want to wear it then do. :)

Just want to thank everyone for their input into this thread. I had a look around the shops here in Waterford yday and got this http://www.lipsy.co.uk/store/dresses/lipsy-one-shoulder-sculptured-dress/product-is-DR04393_101 in the biscuit colour. It looks more pinky on the link but its lovely and a nice lenght on me too. Got lovely black shoes in Penneys and a black bag.

Wha else can i accessorise it with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,518 ✭✭✭✭dudara

Looks like a very nice dress - looks short on the model, but I'm sure that it's more appropriate when it's actually on :)

I'm not sure about black shoes/bag with the dress. The colour looks more delicate. It's hard to say without seeing but I might have gone for nudes with it.

As for accessories, I wouldn't wear a necklace becuase I'd want to let the one-shoulder do the talking. Instead I'd get some chunky cuffs/bracelets.
