Macs run a completely different operating system: Mac OS X, which a lot of people consider much more stable and intuitive to use than Windows. But you can also dual boot Windows on them if you wish, but there's usually no need unless you are a gamer.

The hardware is very expensive which some people attribute to a so-called "Apple tax", but Apple put a lot of thought and effort into the design and construction of their machines. They have high quality displays, excellent battery life, very thin and light aluminium enclosures.

If you want the most bang (in terms of specifications) for the least buck then a Mac probably isn't for you. If you are a big gamer then a Mac probably isn't for you. But if you value the overall user experience and don't mind paying for it, then you should definitely consider getting a Mac.

Above all, I'd recommend that you go into a shop, try one and decide for yourself. Pro and anti Apple fanboyism runs high and there isn't much real objectivity on the issue.
