Has anyone else noticed a huge price increase in coffee.
It seems that due to speculating, the coffee markets have gone crazy worldwide resulting in drastically increased prices.

I'm wondering if this has filtered down to all suppliers yet.

My understanding is that apart from the usual supply fluctuations due to the likes of freak weather and natural disasters that a growing number of coffee drinkers in the 'new' middle class of India and China is increasing demand and prices.

The new consumers in India and China are blamed for everything these days, but really people have been buying up commodities lately and raising the prices.

Columbian crop yield was down considerably last year to due adverse weather, certainly one factor.

Coffee prices are set to rise after an exceptionally poor harvest year in both Colombia and Brazil, the world's leading coffee producer.

Last year's harvest was the worst since 1974, due to bad weather, and the International Coffee Organization (ICO) predicts that the coffee crop for next crop year, beginning September 30, could fall short of the 9.5 million bags predicted.

The instant stuff you're talking about doesn't really come into this... Nestle don't access the market in the same way, they have contracts or even ownership of farms with the farmers working to unsustainable production on their behalf... They charge you what they want & their prices aren't really effected by world markets (to the same extent)... they just care about what they can get out of your wallet and are powerful enough to manage fluctuations is the market and in spend & affordability.

The coffee in question is the stuff that comes to market through trade or auction and is what is roasted locally etc... so the price of speciality coffee by the bag or at a specialist coffee shop will be effected more...
