Error when upgrading iPhone 4 to 4.3

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem as me. I've been attempting (since yesterday, on and off) to download 4.3 through iTunes. I have tried it with both the 'Download and update' and 'Download only' options. Every time it gets to the end of the download it gets to the 'Processing file' stage and then gives this error message:
There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone. The network connection timed out

A bit of searching tells me that it might have to do with my firewall or Anti Virus so I disabled both and attempted the download. No joy. I have updated iTunes, restarted my computer, done a virus check etc. For whatever reason it will just not let me finalise my download.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

    Ta.

I should also say, I have looked in the application control section of my Anti Virus (Kaspesky) and all of the iTunes/Apple/QuickTime applications are 'trusted'.

    Sorry, yeah, I'm using W7.

I'm a bit stumped by this. I've even opened the ports in the router that Apple recommend (80 and 443, or something like that) but nothing doing.

Have you used the same computer to jailbreak a device before? I'd check the hosts file to see if the apple update server has been blocked.

C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ and open the hosts file using notepad. If there is a line within the file containing apple.com, deltete that line and save the file, and try to update again.

    Hi Danbo,

No, I've never jailbroken or anything like that. But I checked the file and there is no reference to apple.com or anything similar.

I solved this. It was Kaspersky.

The solution (for Kaspersky 2011) is:

Open Kaspersky > Settings > Application control > Applications > Apple > Itunes (double click) > Exclusions > Tick all 5 boxes (though I think the problem is likely just the last option 'Do not scan network traffic'). Close the window, click 'Apply' and it should work fine.

    Maybe that will help someone

I nearly always have this problem when I update my software. The only way I have found around it is to restore the ipod to factory settings i.e. use the restore option and it installs the new software when it reboots.

RobinAnn glad I could help. A boardsie in need is a boardsie in .... The amount of time I've wasted trying to update the regular way. I'd probably do it every time theres an update I stare at it for ages getting mildly excited and then I have to do the whole bloody thing again

Any idea if I can do something similar for Dropbox? Is it safe? My Dropbox files never update and I suspect they are being blocked by Kaspersky . . .

Yeah, I presume dropbox is a downloaded program? If so, just follow the steps above and disable the check boxes for drop box. If it doesn't work you can always change them back.

Hey guys, I too have had this problem, but, my phone has gone into recovery mode and I can't download a restore. I had to borrow a laptop as my pc is running xp with service pack 2 only and I think that's causing problems. I must see if I can disable the anti virus then on the laptop if that's what you guys are suggesting...
