    Hi folks,
I am looking at a used Toyota Avensis, Honda Accord & Mazda 6 diesels circa 2007-2008.

Just wanted some advice on the engines and what are best for around 18-20k miles driving.
Honda is most expensive. Is it's 2.2 diesel better than Toyotas 2.2 D4D engine, How does the Toyota 2.2 D4D compare with it's 2.0 engine and how does it compare with azda 6 2.0 diesel?

    Thanks

Honda's is the smoothest, the Mazda 2.0 is inclined to explode.

The toyota 2.2 D-4D is not great, it is unrefined, not very good on juice and they tend to go through head gaskets. Stick with the 2.0 D-4D, from 2006 they were 125bhp and 6 speed.

Mazda 6 2.0d is a ticking time bomb, they had major problems with this engine that were very costly to put right. Best avoided or go for the 2.2d in the new model.

Honda 2.2d is probably the safest bet, early cars had problems but if you are looking at 07/08 models then most of the problems would have been sorted by then. Just check the oil level regularly as the 2.2d likes to use it. My only gripe is that 140bhp from a 2.2d is a little bit disappointing.

Thanks everyone. I like the Honda but they are certainly pricier.
