On Saint Patrick's Day 2011 there will be a world premier on the History channel, on both Foxtel and Austar.

The Story Of The Irish In Australia.

Should be an interesting story about how Australia was influenced/shaped by Irish settlers.

Some of Oz's folk heros/legends such as Ned Kelly came from Irish settlers.

I'm having a few mates round for barby and quite a few beers/ales/largers/stouts/Guinness will be consumed .

We'll watch the show, and then continue on with the eating and drinking.(yeah right, like the drinking will stop while we watch. lol)

Be interesting to hear Irish views on the show.

With what sort of thing are you talking about?
Hero to some, villain to others. Nelson Mandela, Olive Cromwell, Bobby Sands, Ariel Sharon, Bomber Harris.
All of the above are revered and loathed depending on your viewpoint.
Calling Ned Kelly a legend? Well, name some other bushrangers from early Australian history? If his name is the one that has survived, well, by the definition of the word, then he is one.

I have no opinion eitherway on Ned Kelly. I was just making the point that for every person who thinks he was a murderer, another thinks he was a hero.
When this thinking leads to the absence of rational discussion on a subject, people get even more entrenched in their opinions and we have all seen what that can lead to in some instances in places not to far from us.

A lot of the Peelers in early Australia came from Irish background, I think at the start of the Ned Kelly story Ned give a drunken Irish Peeler a kicking for making advances on his sister.

I would imagine most brothers would be liable for that, regardless of the nationality or position of the drunk involved.
