Any reason why I'm not able to get through to any Irish phones. I bought an Iphone4 last week on contract with t mobile uk and anytime I ring an Irish mobile it says that calls to this number are barred. I have the international code in front of it and everything. Is there something I need to change on the phone or what?

You probably need to have been a bill customer for a certain length of time before they will let you dial international or premium rate numbers.

Call them up and see what they say.

That seems about right. I've only had it for a week and it's my first contract with them. Do you think theyll mind me asking them about unlocking it as well?

The provider usually charges a deposit amount to lift the international call baring

Well, I hope you realise how much it will cost when you are able to ring directly!

    In the meantime, get Viber.

Ya I know how much it costs to ring Irish phones from the UK. It would only be in emergency cases etc. I have skype for normal use. What's Viber?

Get yourself an O2 UK "Your Country" SIM -free International minutes every time you top up. No catch -you keep the amount of top up and you get free minutes to every landline/mobile in the word except Sao Tome and a few other places.

Viber is a new app which allows you to call any iPhone that also has Viber installed. Defeats international calling, uses your data, and does not require the app to be "on" per se, so you never miss a call. Excellent.

Not too many of my friends have Iphones but thanks for that. It does'nt include Sao Tome? Damn that's the country I call second most. I already have a contract with T Mobile and my phone is locked to them so how would getting an O2 UK sim work?

Well, you don't have to leave them. Plus, if you simply had a 3 Ireland 3Pay SIM, you could call Ireland and be called at will with no roaming charges.
