I'm going to be in Edinburgh during the Ireland-Wales game, never been there before and I'm hoping someone can recommend a pub to watch the game where the united-arsenal game won't be the viewing preference! Thanks for any help. :)

Anytime I was in Edinburgh, I've never looked further than The Three Sisters pub. It's very well known so if you ask anyone there they can point you in it's direction.

Try the Oz Bar on Candlemaker Row? Its in the old town, cheap pints and they'd always have rugby on the telly if its live. Its just off Grassmarket, easy enough to find. Its about a 10 minute walk away from the main train station.

Head out to Murrayfield, only about 3km from the city centre. The Murrayfield Bar will have it on one of the screens. Few other good bars around that will be showing it. Lothian buses 12, 26 and 31 will bring you there.

Best bet is Malones, the Irish bar near Bristo place on Forrest road. Its a nice enough pub with a few screens and a massive projector. Should be full of Irish on the day so the atmosphere will be good.

  • Malones at 3pm.
    3 Sisters at 7pm.
    Espionnage at 11pm.
Tucked up in bed with a battered haggis and a lovely Scottish girl at 3am.

    Sorted

  • btw, Malones will be absolutely jammed. Get there early, and get a seat/booth.

Other options to watch it with Irish folks are Biddy Mulligans - meh, and Dropkick Murphys - hold onto your wallet.

Yeah go after the games though, for the messing and laughter. It's not really a great place to get served / pay a reasonable price for a pint / watch a game!

We met the Irish Women's rugby team there last weekend after their victory over Scotland. They were flying home at 6am so they didn't even get a chance to come to Murrayfield to watch the Men's game.

Biddy Mulligans is an awful place to watch matches, Finnegan's Wake is much better set up in terms of layout, screens etc.

The advice to watch the match in Three Sisters is a dangerous one. I've arrived there sober at midnight and fallen out the door two hours later; God knows what would happen if you went there at 5pm!

  • no no, don't watch it in 3 Sisters.

    That's for apres match fun.

Teuchters on William St (about a 5 min walk from House of Fraser end of Princes St) is a rugby pub, they always show rugby ahead of football. Very decent pints in there too.
