Been with my boyfriend 9 years now and we know we'll be together forever, at the moment we are renting and would love to move down the country(living in Dub at the mo) and buy/build a house. However its not possible for us to move for forseeable future as we can't get a job outside Dub, with wage cuts we find it very hard to save so it's getting us down as we are kind of in no mans land. Would love the wedding and the house but can't see it happening in next 5 years. He's talking about emmigrating for 2 years to work abroad and save money and come back then and buy a house and get married? Anyone else find the cost of weddings stressing them out? I know we could elope and all that or have a small wedding but I've always wanted to have the white wedding and think my parents would be hurt if they didn't get their day out too, I'm an only child. Sorry for the rant just feel down bout it all, it's hard when you've little control over your fate!! Hope I don't sound like a spoilt brat!!

The money is a massive issue for me too, my OH doesn't have a job right now, and I feel that paying for a wedding would be a chunk of a deposit on a house! Same as you think my family would be disappointed, but at the end of the day it's just one day and it's our decision not theirs.

It costs €150 to get married in Ireland and everything else (from a church to a dress to a hotel meal) is an optional extra.
