Waders vs Boots & Over-Trousers?

    Hi.

    I'm using a waterproof bib & brace with Gore-Tex lined hunting boots (Chiruca Canada - http://www.fal.es/ing/chiruca/caza/invierno2010/ing/index.aspx ).

The boots have been submerged to within inches of their top reasonably often, and have never let any water in. I prefer not to submerge them, but at least I know I can.

I've been thinking lately that I might prefer to use waders - either sock-type ones with wading boots, or more normal ones with integrated wellies.

My fishing is mostly for pike from lake banks, both settled-down-for-the-day deadbaiting, and roving with lures. I like the idea of having the option to get into the water to land or return fish without dragging them over weeds or gravel.

The big advantage of what I'm using now is comfort, both walking and hanging around - can either type of wader match the comfort of over-trousers & good waterproof hiking boots?

    Thanks for any replies,

    Marka

That is a good woman - be sure to keep her sweet.

Let's know what you decide on.

Have you used waders & wading boots before? What's the comfort like with that type of boot for walking?

    Thanks,

I have never had waist waders or wading boots for that matter, so I am looking forward to having so proper gear and not wearing wellies any more and the bloody socks falling in to them and cold feet etc..

I gather if you are getting boots you need to get them one size bigger for stocking foot chest waders..

I've always had neoprene waders both boot and stocking foot but I got a pair of breathable waders last year and there is no comparison, it's like wearing a pair of trousers. There is no heat value for the winter months but a thick pair of tracksuit bottoms underneath does the trick. Have a look at the other thread on waders.

Only coming back to this now.

Got myself a pair of Guideline Orkla (Norwegian-market Kispiox) 4-layer breathable waders (http://www.guideline.no/KISPIOX+WADERS.d2Y-18UlNO38pBp7q5B8Nxh0xE2N13PYpwtnK1g.ips?template=engWebshop) and Guideline Crosswater V2 boots (http://www.guideline.no/CROSSWATER+V2.d2Y-18UlNO38pBp7q5B8Nxh0xE2N13PYpwlnGZ7.ips?template=engWebshop) from Clonanav near Clonmel.

Haven't fished with them yet, but both the waders and the boots are a great fit, and when I asked Andrew at Clonanav if waders could be considered a viable alternative to waterproof over-trousers, he said that modern 4-layer breathable waders are very tough, and will stand up to moderate abuse.

So I'm on the hunt now for a wading jacket to go with the waders - €100-€120 or so tops. Two catch my eye so far:

    Scierra Aquatex Pro

    Vision Keeper

This article (http://globalflyfisher.com/fishbetter/jacket_blues/) is a very good read, and suggests the Scierra might be a good choice, but the Vision Keeper looks good too. I suspect I'd be happy with either jacket, but does anyone out there have any comments, opinions or advice (good or bad) regarding these two jackets? I'm not necessarily intent on buying from fishingmegastore - I just used that shop for browsing.

    Thanks,

    Mark
