Any leeway on speed limits?

Hey,

I was on the Galway motorway yesterday morning. Spotted a squad car with a speed gun. I had a quick look down at the speedo and I was doing around 124kph. It could have been less. Any chance I won't get some lovely post over the next few days?!

Depends on the cop I have passed a cop on the M8 doing 140 and he never follows.

124 in a 120 zone? I wouldn't worry about it!

Speedos are never 100% correct and you could be doing as much as 10% less than you think.

seriously, even if you were doing 124km/h you wouldn't get done for that (assuming limit is 120km/h), chances are your speedo is overreading by something like 5-10%, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Speed guns don't take pictures.
So if he didn't stop you, he can't really do anything.

Besides you say you were doing 124km/h or less. Speedometres always show higher speed then real. So almost certainly you were driving less than 120 km/h which is the speed limit on motorway.

Besides, he probably wouldn't bother stopping you if you were just a small bit over the limit.

If the guard really wanted to, he could do him for that. With full penalty of 80 euros and 2 ponits.

Sometimes I really wonder why there isn't a graded system like in other countries.
F.E.
speeding:
up to 10km/h - 10 euros, no points.
10km/h - 20km/h - 40 euros, 1 point.
20km/h - 30km/h - 100 euros, 2 ponits
30km/h - 40km/h - 200 euros, 4 points
40km/h - 50km/h - 500 euros, 8 points
over 50km/h - summons for dangerous driving.

Your replies are most appreciated peeps. I shall sleep well tonight knowing the chances of 2 points and an 80quid fine are slim. I tread a fine line though, I should really start taking notice of the numbers on the signs! lol Thanks again
