Thats an odd one. You mean when you turn off all lights, the number plate lights stay on?

Anyway, best ask in motors forum.

could be faulty wire, I had kinda similar problem with an astra, light in glove box wouldn't turn off and ran down the battery. had to get it rewired.

Is this a newish or old school vectra

Does it go off when you lock it?

Edit: A quick google tells me that the number plate light stays on to tell you that the boot is unlocked therefore locking the car or leaving the boot locked should turn it off.
If this info is correct and if your light still stays on when locked, you would need to look towards the boot locking system.

It's supposed to do that, it tells you the boot is unlocked. Lock the car and it should go out.

Fairly crappy idea if you don't spot the light is on, which you won't during the day or if you don't walk past the back of the car. On my yoke there is a half beep off the horn if you lock the car with the boot open.

just worried about it runnin down the battery

    I had an 04 vectra.

this is a "follow you home" light function/feature. It's pointless but is supposed to look slick...

It should go off in about a min. is it still on...?

Though that only worked if ya flicked the stalk on steering column...as a temp fix you could pull the fuse , or take out the bulb, till ya get it fixed...

It's the headlights are the follow you home feature, not the number plate lights.
OP, as mentioned just pull the bulbs for the number plate, probably easier than disconnecting the battery. Although perhaps disconnecting the battery for half an hour or so may help, an ECU reset often cures electrical weirdness :)

Is this not akin to cracking eggs with a sledgehammer?

Would it not be easier to pop the bulb until you get it sorted out?

At least you wouldn't have to pop the bonnet and reconnect the battery every time you drive the car!
