Depends - like any group there are good and bad elements - the main criticism I have of travellers is that they don't usually come out and inform on the criminal elements within their own groups even when they know its going on whether that be social welfare fraud or downright criminality, e.g. what happened in Smithfield - didn't hear much from Pavee Point on that.

Travellers whilst deserving of equal treatment also have to step up to the plate in becoming good citizens of the country also and inform on and speak out against traveller criminality when it does occur.

Trying to be discreet is difficult, but some of the more notorious families are no longer on the scene in some areas.

This has lead to a softening of attitude towards the remainder who are more law abiding.

Also the traditional role of dozens of children being let loose from a transit van has been both curtailed [presumably by the seatbelt law] and replaced in some areas by Roma Travellers.

IMO, the public has somewhat shifted aggression off the traveller in general.

Sorry I don't share your ideals and segregate these people from society.

I would have agreed with you until I saw this thread.
