Does anyone know approx what the points for arts will be in 2011? THANKS :D

It's impossible to tell really, it all depends on how many people apply for it.

Points for courses are based on how many points the last person who was offered a place on that course received that year, so it is impossible to tell what the points will be for a course before everyone is offered their place.
It would be very unusual for arts to jump 40 points up though.

OP, the points might drop. Remember the costs of college have increased a lot, so more and more parents will be looking at their childs application and pushing for a degree that is employable or likely to give direct skills for employment like science or IT. Arts, as fun as it is, will only be the most popular when college is free, but I say a lot less parents are willing to fork out thousands if little Larry wants to study philosophy and sociology.

I apologise if you want to study philosophy and sociology :P

Well it's a supply and demand thing when it comes to point, the more people with decent points that want a course, the higher the points will be in general.

But last year they were saying that the points for Arts and everything were going to rocket-up, but I think Maynooth's actually stayed the same :)

No one can say for certain including your source, relax the kacks. It comes around very fast, you just worry about forgetting everything you've ever learnt in secondary school.

Applications to study in Maynooth have gone up by 9.1% as opposed to an overall drop of 0.9% across the country.

In theory (and I hope) the points requirements should go up by a little.

Is the competition for Arts generally intense?

From what I heard in another thread there's always places for people on it.

Well competition is based on numbers that apply, and there is a cap to the number of students that the college can be accept. But should people wish to transfer in from other courses, or other colleges, as long as you have worked hard in your other course they are willing to accept you into arts.

I also applied for Arts as my first choice, however I'm not worrying about points as I'm aiming for 500.
I am just wondering what would be the best choice along with law and french?
