Hi, does know of any guides online for writing a good CV. I need to start applying for graduate jobs and my CV is very straight forward with pretty much my objective & previous employer on it. Need to revamp it completely.

    Thanks

Some great guides up there! But some additional advice I can give also which worked for me is to have as many people as you can look over it once it's finished to give their opinion.

Some will just say "it's great" but others will give some great constructive feedback on what you might need to change / add to it. You don't have to take everyones advice but it can give you some ideas that you didn't think of before. It's actually amazing how many skills you have but don't think to put down - I always found it easier to think of other peoples skills rather than my own.

I think I've rewritten my CV a million times over the years going by what people have said and it really helps!

You could try sending your c.v. to your colleges career service, or making an appointment to discuss it with them.

This is great as well. While there's some great general CV writing guides online, some industries tend to like to focus on certain areas more and that can affect the layout and what skills you highlight.

Talking to someone who is in the industry/hires people in your field can help with this. I went to a industry specific recruitment agency ages ago. While I didn't end up getting a job with them they helped me restructure my CV to that field since I was trying to go into an area that I never tried before. While my CV was generally good at the time it didn't really fit in with what the recruiters wanted in that area.
