I've hit something of a crossroad with my '02 Mondeo, cant decide whether to throw money at it or just cut my losses. 125k on the clock, it needs a service, 4 new tyres, CV boot joint thingy and a new bumper (thanks to a mishap in the ice).

Still a year NCT left to run, the fuel economy is decent and it's been fairly reliable in the 20k odd miles I've put on it. Not sure whether this version of the TDDI suffers from DMF issues but if it does well then that could be on the agenda at some stage. Always thought the clutch felt very weird and takes some getting used to.

Any thoughts on what I should do here? Hardly any point pumping the guts of €2k into a car that's not worth much more than that, or is there??

How do you work that out?

A full and comprehensive service including your cv boot can be done for 250 reckon, four new tyres can be gotten for 400 and a used bumper can be gotten for about 100 and fitted for a little more if its the right colour

All in I reckon 800e. Keep it I say

It will cost you a lot more to upgrade and you may be buying someone elses problems

If you're anyway handy yourself that work would cost nowhere near 2K.
Bumper E50 from a scrapyard. No point getting a brand new one on a 02 car.
    4 part worn tyres E150
Service kit should be no more than E80
Get the cv boot fitted by a mechanic E100
Even getting all that work done by a mechanic should be no more than E250 labour and supply the parts yourself.
A car this age there's no point using main dealers. Try find a local mechanic with a good name.

Thanks fellas, I was factoring in possible clutch job, maybe this is premature. I have googled and googled and just get conflicting answers as to whether the TDDI suffers from the same DMF issues as the TDCI.

Initial reports suggest the TDDI is a tougher machine being the more, ahem, "agricultural" of the two. Also mine is the 115bhp so has a decent poke and Zetec trim.

Just didn't want to start the process of fixing it up only for something else to come along and find myself in a money pit. FWIW I know the engine is sound and has plenty of life left, just some bodywork issues I suppose....plus my roving eye looking at all those nice used machines on the market now :D

Those engines, whilst are a bit crude, are more reliable than their successors. There is a solid DMF / Clutch kit available for those and can be got for around €300.
