If it is only Irish Marathons you are interested in then there are several to choose from...

Cliffs of Moher marathon sounds like a good one (24th September). Just don't expect a flat marathon. And of course Longford marathon if you fancy something flatter (28th august).

    Great list CorkRunning!

No, never ran it personally but it's a new race, growing in popularity but will never be 'big' because of the size of this rock. No idea about the weather - it's as futile as guessing what Cork's going to be like

Helsinki marathon is in August and it is lovely.Medium size with all the stuff you get with a big marathon without the big marathon hassle. scandanavia is not too hot in July or August .

I've gone through 6 pages of forum searches and checked on marathonguide.com but i haven't found a huge amt of useful info on Jersey. I did find that a Board.ie wore a Leeds Utd jersey in Barcelona though.

How flat/fast is the course? A penny for your objective review of the event?

I've got no involvement with the Jersey Marathon - well OK I've helped out with the marshalling and timekeeping. I've not raced the course but I'd be familiar with most of it.

The race starts and finishes in the middle of St Helier, so handy if you're staying in town. It follows an anti-clockwise loop up through the centre of the Island, down to the west and back along the south coast. It's semi-rural mainly with the last seven miles or so along the Railway Walk and then around the sweep of St Aubin's Bay to finish.

The only uphill stretch of consequence is early in the race with a bit of a slog up the very pretty Waterworks Valley - Jersey slopes north to south.

It is NOT a big city marathon and there's only a few hundred run the full race. However, like Cork there's a big relay participation or you might otherwise find yourself running alone. There's also a kiddie's race.

As said before the weather here can be sublime or desperate or anything in between. With favourable conditions I'd say you could knock out a good time.

I'll claim my penny when I'm over next.
