Well after all the debacle last year with the WITSU constitution and the promise made that there would be changes by the new WITSU Team of 2010/2011 it would seem that we will have some form of revised constitution. It was announced today that the draft of the amendments will be released tomorrow.

One such change includes the appointment of a Equality Officer. My understanding is that USI are trying to abolish such a role, and WITSU are trying to bring it in here. Means an other officers paid from our fees, I do believe. I haven't seen or heard of the other changes but splitting up the role of the Welfare Officer (who would cover equality) seems a tad drastic. Not sure of the reasons.

    Any thoughts?

    A specific eqaulity role?
They'd have nothing to do. Welfare fits the position as it is.

I think in UCC at the moment they are having a referendum on whether or not to have an extra student officer - saw the 'NO' campaign on facebook, plus a thread here:

Would WIT students have to vote too on changes to the constitution??

I'm fairly sure we do, but I thought it was suggested by Conor yesterday that it wouldn't (could of sworn he said he hoped to have it passed "unanimously" which wouldn't happen if it was voted on by the student body -- because someone will always always vote no).
