    Hi guys,

Where can I find a list of rules from an amateur bout in Muay Thai in which neither fighter has had a fight? Do they vary much from event to event? Am I right in saying that kicks and elbows to the head are a no no? Also, is it always 16 ounce gloves? Anything else worth noting after that? Thanks.

Depends, you can have A class amateur where elbows etc are allowed (usually with elbow pads on)

Usually in Ireland for amateur fights its C class rules, 3 x 2 min rounds, no knees or elbows to head. Shinguards, bodyguard, headguard, 16oz gloves, gumshield and steel groin guard must be worn.

As to scoring this might help...

Usually allowed, though it depends on age.

The IMC which is the Irish Sports Council recognised body for Muaythai in Ireland run very regular Amateur shows and bouts. There is no variation from event to event (unless there are different classes eg A/B/C class bouts) and we follow the rules of the IFMA http://ifmamuaythai.org/index.php

In fact Ireland will take part in a 4 Nations event in May which will feature some of the best fighters in all 4 countries taking part. Ireland will send a very strong team over to the event which will include a B team.

The team is still in the process of been picked but unfortunately this has been further completed by a clash with the next Bridgestone show.
