    Hi all.
I hope this is ok to post here. It certainly isnt right for AA but if the mods think it is better in AH then move it:)
    Heres a what if:
If the teaching of Catholicism was removed from your school tomorrow along with all the preparation for the sacrements would you:
Be prepared to attend special weekend classes or to let your child stay after school for instruction in catholicism and preparation for the sacrements from the PP or lay persons.
    Or failing this
Would you be willing or able to do it all yourself in your own time?

Ok. I figured out the poll. Feel free to advise on the options.
    Thanks

Could or would you teach your child its religion extra curricular or totally on your 10 votes

I would attend instruction after school hours or at week ends

I could do it all on my own.

I could not do it on my own.

    I wouldnt bother any more.

My 4 yo is going to start in a multi denominational Gaelscoil this Sept.
This is the way all the new schools are opening and I think it's good for the children as they will still study religion but that's exactly what it will be....a learning of all religions and cultures.
We will be able to avail of parent led Catholicism classes after school, and we will avail of this.

It has already been removed from the schools. But better to see it there and hanging in by the skin of its teeth than see it removed altogether. This way we can pray that Catholic education will get better.

I'll be homeschooling my little one. It is cheaper also. Any Catholic interested in finding out about Catholic homeschooling give me a pm and I'll give you more details.

Homeschooling is always easier too when you have to move from town to town or country to country. It's easier on the pocket when you know how. Not that I'm claiming I know it all but there ya go.

To be frank I could rephrase the entire question as
"If the schools didnt do the work would you?'
Prompted by a late night drunken chat with my "we tick the census and do mass at Christmas" neighbours who said that they would not bother with it at all if their school didnt take up the strain.

Thats what we promise when we get married. We promise and vow to bring up our children Catholic. It is the parents duty to teach their children. The schools already dont teach the children proper doctrine or Catholic teaching. My graffitied school desk in Sec school is witness to that * yawn *.

Both St.Joseph and St.Mary worked hard all day and yet still found time to teach Jesus the Torah. So parents who claim they ''dont have the time'' are simply mouthing off a lazy reply. There are homeschoolers out there who are well capable. But for those who are sincerely incapable of it then the schools work out quite well in that regard.

It is possible that your friends just compromised under the pressure of the conversation. But it is also possible that they really just couldnt care at all. In which case I dont claim to better than them. But will pray that God will open their heart to change.
