    Hey all
Broke my sky+ box when i spilt water it. If i pick up another sky plus box will it work straight away or do i need to contact sky?
Also wondering is there any point in buying a hd box, will the hd stations work?

    Cheers,

    Hiya,

Same thing happened my mother in law a few weeks ago to the standard box. She rang sky, explained what happened and they offered her a free sky+ hd box as an upgrade. All she had to pay was €30 for the installation fee. She paid that with her laser card there and then and installer was out about a week later. No problems..

Dont think your card would work with a new box as sky have to pair the card to the box at your residence. If you just got a new box then the card wouldnt be paired to it.
As for hd working, u have to have a hd subscription with sky ~ €15 per month on top of your regular bill.

    Hope this helps :)

If you get a new box you'll have to ring Sky to pair the new box with your Sky card.

If you have a HD Ready TV you'll pick up a few free HD channels like BBC HD and ITV1 HD with a Sky+HD box. (The thing to note with a Sky+HD box is that nearly all the programmes in Anytime are the HD version which means you won't be able to view them unless you have a HD sub.)

I'd give Sky a ring - I did that about 2 weeks ago myself, saying I was thinking about changing to UPC. They offered to lower the subscription I'm paying for 6 months but I said I'd just love a new HD box without the HD package (longer hours for recording and BBC HD is free). They said no problem, just had to pay €29 for the installation - they also lowered the multi-room price from €15 per month to €10 per month for the next year. I have to say their Customer Service rep Darragh couldn't have been nicer, a pleasure to deal with! :)

Call a local agent/installer you should be able to get a refurbished sky plus box much cheaper and they will do all the pairing cards etc.
