My friend is completing her LCA this year and is just about to turn 17, she has applied for colleges and all the rest but has now been told that she won't be able to get a grant higher than 1,000 for the entire academic year because of her age. She is living away from home and won't be able to support herself on this, she is currently supporting herself on a Training Allowance as we attend a Youthreach. She is not i a position to ask her parents to help her out. What, if anything, can she do.

Its not because of her age but the distance from College that determines the amount of the grant.
If her parents live inside the 28 mile limit she will get the adjacent rate. The rate last year was 1300 but this could change this year.
Her parents' address will be used as she is under 23.
