    Hi,

Would appreciate if any students could tell me what their experience with mobile broadband coverage is like on campus whether it be O2, Vodafone, 3 or Meteor. I am going to buy a stick next week so just want to know who to avoid.

    Thx

I have meteor and I live accross the road from DCU in Shanowen, it works grand.

    Tested it just now:

Usually a bit faster than that.

Cool. Comreg have a map that shows all the masts around Ireland. Apparently 3 and Vodafone both have masts on campus that support 3G but I know from using my phone that vodafones coverage can be quite patchy on campus inside nearly all the buildings.

My 3 one worked fine there when I had it.

o2 broadband is grand UNTIL you go into campus res - then its like smoke signals. I swear if I didn't know better there were signal blockers up in the campus res. As soon as you leave the postgrad block or any of the undergrad blocks signal is fine!

Rang o2 about it - they guy on the line found it strange and told me that it was the only blackspot for them and when I asked if they had any plans to do anything about it I got an immediate no.

How nice of them. You would think all the operators would have good coverage around the campus as it would only seem to make sense.

    Just an update on this:

Meteor have installed a mast on campus.

02 are the only network not supporting 3G from the campus itself though can probably pick up a signal from a distant mast.

my friend on campus had vodafone last year; it only worked by the window, and cut out a lot during fb chats :(

O2 reception for phones while wandering around campus appeared to be fine, but typical O2, "oh we're brilliant, why on earth would we help students who want to use out internet hurr durr".

There phone coverage is fine because they have a mast on campus but it only supports gsm and not 3g.
