Right I'm trying to get my windows xp (SP3) lite to work on a live usb for my mame machine

I used unetbootin and it gets to the menu where it says default up top and autoboot in 10 seconds down below but it just repeats the countdown constantly :S

Anyone know what I should do or a better way to make a live usb for xp lite

From what I can see, unetbootin is not designed to create a bootable USB version of XP. AFAIK creating a bootable version of XP is fiddly and involves against-charter stuff like modifying CAB files in the installation media and altering the order in which drivers are loaded to allow the installer to see USB storage.

I could be wrong, but as far as I know the only way to get a USB-bootable version of XP is to use XP Embedded, which basically means you have to work for someone with a Volume Licence Agreement.

barts PE works great on usb pen
but takes a long time to setup

you can get this running using a cd disk very quickly.
    good luck

BartPE is great alright, but it's a Pre-installation Environment rather than a fully-fledged OS so it can't quite be used in the same way as a full install.

To be honest I've no idea, it depends how MAME handles graphics amongst other things.

To be honest given that MAME's available on other platforms you'd be much better off creating a bootable USB drive using something like Fedora and installing XMAME, Gnome Video Arcade or one of the other variants instead - I forget which one I've got set up on my media centre, but it was pretty easy to get up and running with yum after a little bit of reading around (ie. no more reading around than you'd normally expect with MAME).

I have tried mame with bart pe it works
I needed to but some extra dll into the mame folder for it run.
I had no sound I say I would have inject sound driver into the bart pe image and I would be away
I used mame version 103 which does not need 3d directx

    here is screen shoot
