God I loved flares; I remember christmas 97, getting a purple pair and a light blue denim pair. Fab and comfy but when it rained they soaked up all the puddles :(

I have a pair like these from Topshop last year. Mine are a flat colour though. I'll be wearing them when it gets warmer with a blouse tucked in and a pair of wedges.

Definitely go and try them on at least! I think you'd be surprised at how flattering they are!

Your choice of language was, ahem, harsh ;) And you didn't say it was for men.

I would agree that flare jeans on men are a no, they rarely look good. Straight leg or bootcut.

Bootcuts are as bad if your not wearing them over chunky boots, otherwise they look really sloppy.

Oh god, i won't be wearing them anyway!

i remember trinny and susannah and the like used to ramble on about how they balanced out your figure or some such...

Personally I think they look awful on women, they are just so unflattering on anyone under a size 14, they make you look massive! if your shoulders/arms are in anyway slim they just make you look completely out of proportion, like a huge triangle! lol they're up there with tracksuit bottoms for me wouldn't be caught in them in public!*

Hate them on men too, they just look so student-y or something, in a bad way!

    *oops - rant

I used to wear flares when I was size 12-14 and I think they looked fairly well.

Tried on a really nice semi-high waisted pair last week though because I thought they'd look cute with wedges and a summery top tucked in, and couldnt believe how ridiculous they looked on me :( Completely drowned me, and even though they were high waisted they made my legs look so stumpy. Not for small framed short-asses! Think its for the long legged among us. Love the look though, but Im gonna stick to my bootcut/skinnies.

Well I've always liked the aul' flares. I remember trying so hard to find them when I was younger, nowhere sold them. Second hand stores but that's about it. Or in the States. In the mid-90s it was all about the huge big baggy jeans, so I was always trying to find them too.

For me, I've always struggled with narrow or slim jeans, because I have big legs and also because I've size 12 feet (I'm a guy). So narrow jeans always made me look like I was wearing clown shoes. I hate the association bootcut jeans have with that "dad look" (wearing them with brown shoes etc), so if a decent pair of flares are available, nicely fitted on top, with a bit of room at the bottom, I'm there.

I've always worn flares even when they're not "in"....who cares if something is in or not, I'll wear what I like! :)

I love flares, always have. I like the hem of my jeans to cover at least half my foot, and the more it covers, the better.

I'm quite happy about this, because I am SO sick of not being able to find skinny or straight leg jeans that fit me. :)

I've lost count of how many times flares have come back into trend. They have been a major factor in fashion at some point in each of the last 5 decades. There is nothing new under the Sun in fashion.

Secretly delighted about this. The sight of skinny jeans on most people is abhorrant to my eye. If you are thin they just exagerate that thiness and make you look gaunt. If you are heavy they emphasise the bulges and make you look even heavier. It's a rarity to see the jeans on the right person.
Wimmins can get away with skinnies better then men though. It's the foot size. A small foot look OK under a skinny jean but a mans size 10 boot looks like a barge with a single mast and no sail. This gets worse when the boots are left unlaced.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

I remember back in 2004 or so suits with flared trousers came out, and I did get one. But now I wouldn't, there's something about a classic suit trouser that looks good.

But I will be interested to see how many designers / brands start to bring out more flares, and make stylish ones too, especially for men. There's always been a "bootcut" option, but they aren't that nice, just baggy wide jeans really. Sometimes that's OK, but a really nice smart pair that go flared at the end would be class.
