    Hi,

Looking for best route via public transport to get from Heuston station to Galsnevin/Drumcondra, specificaly to porterhouse north as new office is beside here.

Just to note I have red luas monthly pass. This morning I went as far as Abbey street and grabbed a cab from there this morn(first day in job today) however if there was a bus direct from Heuston or maybe oconnell street that would be ideal for the future,

    Cheers

i think ur best to get the luas to middle abbey street and then a number 16 bus from o'connell st up the drumcondra road - they run very regularly.

You have a few options. You can walk for about 10 minutes from Heuston to Infirmary Road by the Phoenix park, and get the 46a. That will drop you at Doyle's corner in Phibsboro a 5 miute walk away.

Otherwise, from O'Connell street, you can get the 4, 19, 19a, 140 to Cross Guns bridge in Phibsboro, just opposite the Porterhouse. The 38 or 38a from O'Connell street will also drop you at Doyles Corner, as will the 120, 121 or 122.

If you get the Luas to the Four Courts, you can get the 83 going up Church street, which passes by the Porterhouse. This would probably be the quickest, most direct route, but the waiting for the 83 would be less frequent than waiting on O'Connell street.

Don't get the 16, it doesn't go that close.

You want a 19/19a/83 (from Westmorland St.)to go to the porterhouse. It's a long stroll from Drumcondra road.

It would be nearly as cheap in a taxi.

    o
    Cheers for the replies guys.......

I would think that getting the luas to Abbey and getting either the 4, 19, 19a, 140 to Cross Guns bridge in Phibsboro would be the best route........

    thanks again

    Other options are:

    1. Get off the Luas at Four Courts and walk 20 minutes up Church St and Constitution Hill. 20 mins isn't a bad walk and considering you could end up waiting 10+ minutes for a bus, it'll take about the same amount of time.

    2. Walk the 5 minutes from Heuston to Smithfield and take a DB bike from there to Eccles St which should take about 8 minutes. Walking from there to work should take about 5 minutes. Since the bike rental is under 30 minutes, it will be completely free.

5 minutes from Eccles St to Cross Guns Bridge? You'd want to have some long legs...

Ah yeah, maybe 7-8 minutes but not much more than that, depending on where exactly the OP is going :)

Isn't it a shame that the OP can't get a train from Heuston station considering its rail connected to within metres of his/hers office beside the Porterhouse.

That track beside the Porterhouse goes right from Heuston under the Phoenix Park and into Connolly but unfortunately its out of use.

Get off the Luas at the Wynns hotel stop and walk around to Parnell Street and get the 40 or 40A and that will drop you right outside the Porterhouse in Phibsborough

Not quite out of use, just not used effectively. But perhaps now that the country is in the sh1tter, we may see some sense prevail and efforts made to try something at low cost. Its interesting to see a blatant example of someone trying to make this commute and its not possible by rail, despite the connection being there. I know that there are many more.

I do think investing in rail is the way forward, just down the road is the old Broadstone terminus that runs practically to Navan and that links up with the various other tracks in the Phibsborough/Glasnevin/Cabra area that all head to Heuston and Connolly.

Cycling is the quickest and most reliable way to do this. It's a short cycle -- about 15 mins or so (it's a slight bit uphill around Broadstone, so going to the station is quicker).

Try this route going to work and this route to the station.

It's a short journey on urban roads -- you don't need showers at work, and you can use a cheap bike. All you need beside the bike is lights and an ok lock.
