Get MacX DVD Ripper Pro for both Windows and Mac (FREE until Saturday)!!!

The software rips a DVD or a Video-TS folder directly to iPhone, iPad, iPod, Apple TV with nothing more than a few mouse clicks—or if you want to rip a DVD to MOV, MP4, or AVI, you can do that easily too, which should be sufficient for most devices.

    Link to download.

There are plenty of free options out there. Don't know how they could charge anything for this low tier software. :o

Not really the point of a ripper.

I think you have to install this by Saturday to get it activated for free.

Yes there are lots of free ones but most meet their match after a while or turn payware for the useful stuff, I've no problem paying 0 for something that doesnt mess up my computer and does what it says in the name. So here goes....

Am I wasting my time downloading this if I already have Handbrake??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,382 ✭✭✭peckerhead

Not if, like me, you find the audio volume comes out very low on Handbrake rips.

    @Skerries: try DVDFlick (free)

Downloaded the Mac version last night and it worked like a treat..watched the movie later on the iPod Touch 3G. No issues. Easy to use and simple interface for the relatively non techie amongst us.

    Thanks OP.

There are heaps of free alternatives out there (AutoGK is a fave of mine), but I'll give it a whirl later anyways...

    Cheers OP

The offer says over now but still available to download. Reversing time (jic) worked to activate. :)
Plenty of options and worked well to make an flv. Gave an error to make mp4 but will try that again.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

Could have done with an option to let you specify the output file size ala AutoGK, and to just use the framerate of the source...

I quite like how you can specify the number of cores to use though

What is (jic) mean? And how do you do it?

    Edit: I got it, thanks

Just in case then "jic" = "Just in case":D
Reversing time on pcs starts with reversing the clock, dont know if it needs it but jic:)

    Thanks OP, program seems great

I'm using it to rip my dvd collection to divX so I can pack the dvds away somewhere

Could anyone recommend settings that would give decent quality and reasonable file size (say 1GB or less for standard movie)?

    thanks

Any ideas if this converts media files to DVD format? Like avi. to dvd.?

You could try DVDFLICK as mentioned earlier in the thread, also is this just as good as ConvertXtoDVD? as i was given it, but havent had a chance to use it yet.

Anyone else had this thing "choke" on them about half-way through the rip? It's happened to me twice now, on two different DVDs that I know are fine... :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

Nope, but it closes completely without warning quite a lot (on DVDs that I've just removed the plastic wrapping from)
Think I'll carry on looking for alternatives tbh...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,382 ✭✭✭peckerhead

Yeah, that's what happened me, except I also then get a message screen asking (in slightly dodgy English) for permission to email them a log file. The output file, somewhere between 500/550Mb, won't open in any media player.

Fortunately I also got this while it was free... :)

For some reason it has now taken to just closing when it reaches 100%

I quite like the results though, and it's especially handy for DVDs from different regions (saves having to install anydvd or somesuch...), so might not give up on it just yet...
