Car Alternator

Okay, so my car has been giving out this terrible, intermittent noise when the engine is running and more recently the noise has gotten louder and more frequent (meaning something is definately not right --- even though 2 separate mechanics chose to believe differently!)

From what I could gather, it was a problem along the lines of alternator pulley bearings. Having put in a brand new battery 2 months ago (coz batt kept dying).... I am now faced with a dying battery again!

So, if I replace the alternator (450 main dealer cost), is it possible the noise/problem will still be there with the pulley bearings or would a replacement alternator look after this???

Any help would be great guys, non-car expert here as you can tell

For alternator issues an auto electrician is a better person than a mechanic. Whining bearings in the alternator wouldn't prevent the alternator from charging the battery though. If the battery wasn't being sufficiently charged the alternator light would remain on on the dash.

take your car specifically to an auto electrical place, they could just replace the pulley, including labour for a fraction of 450.

    edit : beaten to it

Could anyone recommend an auto electrical place in Dublin City or around?

It is possible that the alternator...and pulley are both to blame for what could be two separate problems?

Hadnt noticed any light on the dash! other that the random air bag one but that's just a problem for another day :D

Electro Maintenance in Baldoyle are the place to go. Supply all the stuff you need.
