Recently took delivery of the the new 5 series touring and im delighted with it, but, i selected the usb interface as an option thinking that the iphone would work through the BMW custom fit crade in the centre arm rest.

I have called various dealers and none seem to have a clue, i for instance can get the ipod to play through idrive as long as its connected via the apple cable directly into the usb port, but through the cradle i cant get it to do anything.

One dealer told me all the cradle is for is charging the phone:eek::eek:

Anyone with any ideas? I can play via the bluetooth audio function but its better wired in as i can scroll through the idrive etc.

I'm open to correction but I think the cradle is only for charging and access to the external antenna ?

As far as I know there are 3 cradles for iphone4 and the only available here at he moment does not allow multi media use, I think it will be out in June. The one you want is PN 8421 2199 392 I think

On the BMW website on the accessory section I think there is a special iPhone cradle advertised.

Hi Guys, I dont want to hijack the thread but: I also bought the new bmw 520D but didnt order the apple thingy. Can I get something retrofitted? Really regret not spending the extra money now (I spent money on the sports steering wheel and the sports thingy for the auto gearbox).
    Anything I can do?

You can get the full USB connector to go in your glove box and will feed through to the idrive. Costs around 600 euro though.

Yeah the cradle in the centre is only for charging and extra antenna strength at the moment,

Not available on the F10 Baz - I know as the first F10 I ordered was ordered before full spec's were available and the USB was missed.

Dension are working on it, and so far have been able to get the USB to work - but it locks out all the software on the car so dealers can't diagnose / update anything. BMW don't really like that sort of thing and it has an adverse effect on the warranty ;)

Hopefully they'll crack it soon though.

Seems madness - surely we're getting to the stage where full usb integration should be as standard as a cd player

Ive a 08 520d sport, no USB, just an AUC jack.....
i emailed BMW about a system that would fully support the iPhone4 (ie: phone calls & music) through the cars system, and can be controlled via the steering wheels buttons,,,this is the responce:

Thank you for your email dated March 8, 2011, regarding accessories for your iPhone 4.

I can confirm that BMW do currently offer an iPhone 4 Snap-in adaptor which offers hands free connectivity and will charge your phone, as well as providing increased signal through the vehicles external aerial. However, this device does not allow for media playback from your handset. We also offer a 'Y' cable which will allow your handset to connect to your vehicle via a USB and an a auxiliary socket and will provide media playback.

A Media Snap-in adaptor is planned for release later this year which will offer full connectivity, including music and video playback through your iPhone. I am unable to confirm any release date for this device. If you require any further details, I would recommend contacting the Parts Department at your local BMW Approved Dealership. Your nearest approved dealership can be found by using the dealer locator function on our website, a link to which, I have included below:

    http://www.bmw.ie/ie/en/general/dealerlocator/content.html

I trust that this information is of assistance, however, if you have any further enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
    Yours sincerely

i got the snap in thingy and all its for is charging, which my local dealer did not tell me.

If you have specced the USB interface then that will charge your phone just fine, i use this more than the snap in adaptor which is just a very expensive piece of plastic that not even steve jobs could get 70 euro for.

Steve Jobs would and then some - an apple 5 Series would come with a shell and a list of apps for everything else ,

Hi. I have a 2008 E60 fitted with factory fitted cradle with iPhone adapter for iPhone 4. I have paired the phone as per instructions and it shows up on the system. my problem is there appears to be a lot of interference during phone calls. It sound like a "crackle" every few seconds. The car has been updated with latest software by BMW but the problem is still there. I didn't want to raise the issue during service because of the potential cost of a fault finding expedition!! Has anyone any suggestion on wher to start with curing this annoying problem. I;m being told by callers ther sounds to be an echo from my phone in the car. My iPhone also has latest software updates. Thanks in anticipation.
