    Hi

I am moving in to a new place in the next week or so. It used to have a gas fire installed in the fireplace but this was removed. There is now nothing, no wires etc inside the fireplace it was all removed so it is just a hollow space. I am hoping to put in a real fire but am wondering what do i need? Is it just the Grill and grate?? Will i need to get a chimney sweep to make sure the chimney is clear?

    Cheers

When changing from gas to solid fuel, there are a few things to check.
Firstly, the hearth and insert need to be suitable for solid fuel. The hearth should be split and filled so check are these split lines on the hearth. If not, I wouldn't recommend using is for a solid fuel fire as there is a much higher temperature being put towards the hearth.
The insert would need to have the same done if it is a granite/stone but if its cast iron it should be fine.
A concrete fireback will also be needed for a solid fuel fire.
