    Hi,

I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, but I went back a few pages and couldn't find a recent thread on the same issue.

I'm selling my car to another person (not a motor dealer) and having viewed this page:

    http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/MotorTax/ChangeofOwnership/
Change in Ownership for post 1993 vehicles:
Send the following to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Computer Services Division, Shannon Town Centre, Co. Clare. (Phone: +353 (0)61 365 000 or **Lo-Call 1890-411412):
    • If sold privately, complete part b of the vehicle licensing certificate or the registration certificate for post-April 2004 vehicles.
    • If sold to a motor dealer, give your dealer the vehicle licensing certificate or registration certificate and complete form RF105, supplied by your dealer.

am I right in assuming that all that happens is the new owner completes part B of the vehicle licensing certificate and send it off to Shannon?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Both you (the seller) and the buyer fill out the change of ownership section, sign and date it. The seller is to then send it to the DOE in Shannon who will issue the buyer a new Vehicle Registration Cert meaning they are the new registered owner. The seller is not to give the change of ownership form to the buyer.

I find the best thing to do is for you to have an envelope and stamp ready when the transaction is complete, it is filled in by both of you then you both go together and drop it in the nearst post box. This way there is no blame associated as to who did or didn't post it off to Shannon.

Thanks for that. Is there any value to me making a copy of the completed form for myself (and the buyer) to keep?

I bought a car recently, when we filled in the details, we photocopied the form, i took the copy and the seller posted cert, I got new cert after 3 days from shannon. all worked out fine. When i sell my car i will do the same.

Hey guys im sorry to jus drop in but im having a little problem and i wondering do any of you know anyway of sorting this im at hair pulling stage.
my boyfriend bought me a car 4 years ago for my birthday and has been in my possession, ive never driven before so this was ideal for my first car, unfortuantely things went wrong job wise and we couldnt afford to get me going on the road, also at this point i should add he knows the person who gave him the car so as there was no hurry because of money to get me on the road we were in no rush to change ownership etc (im kicking myself now) 4 years later im ready to finally get going and the owners are incapacitated both physically and mentally so we have noway of gettin the logbook or any written proof whatsoever to say i am the true owner of the car. i went into the gardai and asked and they told me to get written proof off the owners and ring shannon but i cant get anything at all. ive sent shannon an email to their querie dept and am awaitng reply. anybody know of anyway i can get around this mess, ive googled and cant find anything!

Find out who their guardians are, and talk to them?

Not fully true. If you are selling a car to a person living outside of Ireland, you must hand over the Vehicle Registration Document to the new owner.

unforynately i tried that but the son will not help i think im justt looking at a brick wall. just going to have to wait for a reply from shannon and see if theres some sort of loophole maybe.

thank god shannon got in touch and there is a loophole for such circumstances, i have to bring the car to a garage and get a form stamped 2 verify the chassis number, i then have to take an oath in a solicitors and sign a declaration saying the car really is mine and not stolen etc and in 10-14 days i'l be good to go, happy days :) thanks 4 your help
