Asking for an extended warranty

    Hi everyone,

I bought a car 10 months ago (2007 with 20,000Km, cost €15K). The other day the car start making some horrible loud knocking noise as soon as the engine was started. I'm still under warranty so the garage sent out a guy to assess the car and it was deemed unsafe to drive. Theyve been working on it for the past 2 days now. Theyve needed to replace the friction wheel in the water pump, the fanbelt and possibly the timing chain (from reading up on it, it seems this model of car is known to have timing chain issues).

The car now has 33,000Km on the clock. I'm concerned about all these issues considering the car is still relatively new. I'm considering asking for a free extended warranty.

Does anyone here have any experience with asking for extended warranty? Are they likely to do this for me? I'd also be interested to hear if anyone has any advise for me regarding the car. I'll HOPEFULLY be picking up the car this evening, are there any specific questions I should be asking?

    Thanks!

Tbh, you could only reasonably expect them to extend the warranty on the parts that have been replaced.

It is possible to buy a third-party warranty. The dealer might be able to arrange this for you, or you could google it.
