Heading up to the Blue Mountains this weekend on a days outing (driving). Can anyone recommend what parts to go to just for the day and what would be the best thing to do for the day?

    Cheers!

Wentworth Falls, ie at the bottom of the Falls road. Here

    Leura village for early Lunch.

Kootomba---- 3 Sisters @ echo point . Park there and go down the steps and walk the trail around to Scenic World
You have then the choice of the

    Skyway
    Cable car
    Railway

Then you can catch the Red London Bus back to Echo point if you dont fancy climbing the steps (you wont)

Go to Katoomba and check out the Three Sisters.

    Visit the Katoomba Falls.

Everyone who goes to the mountains should make sure they are at Katoomba after dark because the Three Sisters, Katoomba Falls and Leura Cascades are all floodlit.

    Visit Echo Point.

A walk down Katoomba Street will take the visitor to the town's other famous, man-made attraction, The Paragon Cafe, now listed by the National Trust because of its superb 1930s Art Deco interior.

A little further west, via Cliff Drive, is a signposted turnoff into Violet Drive which takes visitors to thew cliff edge where they will find the Scenic Skyway which crosses the Jamison Valley. This is not for the faint-hearted. The aerial cable car floats across the valley some 275 metres above the valley floor and offers views of the Katoomba Falls and Orphan Rock.

Operating from the same site is the Scenic Railway. It has its origins in local mining operations which used coal skips to ferry miners down the cliff face to work.

Plenty to see and do in Katoomba.

    Hope you enjoy yourself.

All above advice is good. Katoomba is a good laugh to go out in at night too. Bit redneck and rough but mostly good fun. Greek restaurant was cool.

Giant Staircase from Echo Point. Take it down to the bottom, walk to the Scenic Railway, take it up to the top and walk back to Echo point along the ridge.

Its a very satisfying few hours.

Nice Stout in the Old Bank bar beside the Carrington Hotel, had great night in there about 5 years ago.

Katoomba is nice, get there early in the day incase things close down, if you are unfit the trek back up the steps will murder you!

Leura is lovely but agree you should get there early, especially on a weekend if it's nice weather. Blackheath is nice, too.

Just sitting in the Old City Bank BR in Katoomba, the stout is as good as I have tasted in Oz. It must be draught and not that fake Extra Cold crap.
