Burn out the car while you still have the time

I would if i could but i've never seen this car before in my life !

i now have to live with the shame that the very first car registered in my name was a 01 megane :(
just say sorry and pay for the petrol.

    petrol prices man !!!

actually serious question though.. how does this effect my driving license and what not ? why did the gardi not cop on that i have no insurance and the likes ?

they got my name, address and phone number right like and it was the gardi that called cos i rang the station itself back and they confirmed!

do i have penalty points ? fines ? summons ? what the hell do i do ???

also theres a vehicle registered in my name... what the hell do i do about that ?

haha, Clondalkin is just as bad. From round there meself. :P

Not your car, tell them that.

If it is registered under your details... you've somehow become a victim of identity theft. I'd be more concerned with that, then penalty pionts or fines.

No. You might have to make a court appearance though to prove your innocence.

i've never lost a wallet, passport or driving license in my life... still have them all.. bank card.. only ever had the one and its grand. no unusual transactions on the statement... use the same bank trustworthy machines all the time and never had a problem

what should i be looking out for here ?

grand, any excuse for a day off !

We all know that clondalkin is an of spring of Ballyer :-)

Re the incident, penalty points might be last of your worries,,as far as i know its an offence when you sell on your car not to change names ,addresses etc.And that is if it wasent you do the drive off :-)

Um, recheck what account you're signed in under... :P

    =-=

OP; if the car "belongs" to you, it may have been "bought" by you, and you may "owe" money on it. Sounds like you have become a victim of ID theft. If you have, you're f**ked. As you may be in negative equity on a few houses.

Random idea: go into a few banks with your ID, and ask what's your bank account, as you have "forgotten" you account number...

they dont have to steal from you when using your identity.

i'd be going to the gardai wondering how it could of happened. especially as you said, you dont own a car.

It's not often cars are registered under a victims name because the offender needs access to their mail to intercept the registration cert when it's sent out. This means that the person who does it would have to be family/housemate/neighbour/postman. Op if you have never owned a car you need to contact Shannon asap and get your name off it before you start getting speeding fines and toll bridge bills. You also need to make an official complaint about it at your local station and get it investigated.

When you buy a car you don't need id. You just put your details on the cert and the person sends it off. If the car is registered to the op at the correct address this is what happened. As I said before it means someone would need to intercept the cert in the post though.

Victims of ID theft only find out when the law comes down on them for failure to pay taxes and/or loans, for hit and runs, etc.

If your ID has been stolen, you don't know until it's too late. I'd ring the Gardai, and get them to put out an alert that the car isn't yours, and because it's not yours you don't have tax or insurance for it. Also point out that you fear the person in it is impersonating you.

You should also ask to look at the CCTV for the drive off to see if you recognise the thief. Also have a think about wether anyone has asked you to keep mail for them in the past.

Someone has made a set of plates with your number on it and stuck them on a similar looking car, that's all.
An easy thing to do, all he has to do is walk around a car park and find another car like his and copy the plates.

Until it's stopped, you'll have to keep a record of the cars whereabouts.

The ringer car may collect a few speeding tickets, M50 tolls, and other thingc have the Garda accepted that your car wasn't involved.

edit:if you'd posted this in motors, you would have been given a serious answer straight away!

    oops :o

Identity theft or clumsy admin! Identity theft is easy, just stealing a letter out of your front door will give someone your name and address.

So you had an 01 Megane but you don't own a car now ?

What happened the Megane? Did you sell it on to someone, if so did you complete the relevant paperwork (RF200 to the motor tax office)? If not your details for that car are still registered on the motor tax database.

However if the car is still sitting in your driveway not used, ask the Guards to come around to check it and aompare with the bilkers car.

he has never had a car. he's saying that because of this, its going to appear that he had a megane.

If the car's registered in your name, can't you report it as stolen?

Or the opposite of stolen, whereby you come to own a car without ever having bought it.

Exactly. Look on the bright side OP, someone was kind enough to get you a free car.
