    Well Folks from Westmeath!
We're book into a nice hotel for Paddy's weekend in Athlone (never been before:o). We are looking for a good rugby pub to watch the Ireland V England game. Big screen, good atmosphere and good pints.
Can you recommend anywhere for me?

The Bounty is in front of Dubarry Park (Buccaneers RFC) so they will have it.

Plus Ireland u20s are playing England u20 in Dubarry Park on St Patricks Day

Yeah there is generally a great crowd in the bounty. And if there is a match on before it there will definitely be a good crowd.

    Thanks Folks.
    Looking forward to it!!

The Under 20's match would be worth going to but I wouldn't bother with the Bounty for the Ireland V England game on TV. If you're staying in town, head for the Snug or the Castle Inn. They are usually good for the match.

The under 20s game is on the Friday, 18th March.

also the new bar called Graces (near the Texas shopping centre) might be a good spot on the day but not sure if they will get enough people or not seeing as it's newish - they gave a free pint for wearing an Irish jersey for the other games :)

Ah yeah you'll be better off staying in the town to watch the match, but might be worth going to the u20's game on the Friday night if you can spare a few hours!

The Olive Bar near the ballymahon rd, is the main non rugby club, rugby pub in town! They sponsor the Buccaneers and are deeply involved in the rugby scene in Athlone. Alot of players and rugger buggers go there for the big matches. It gets nice crowds and has a good atmosphere. They do finger food aswell for the big games.

Was in the Bounty for the Ireland - Wales game. Great crowd, and great atmosphere. Pity about the rugby though!

Definately the Castle Inn I'd recommend, The Bounty is a bit out of the way if you're out for the evening, Castle is right at the centre of it all. Arrive a good half hour before kick off to mak sure of decent seats

Do "the snug" and "the castle Inn" serve food?
