Hyundai I30 v Ford Focus

    Hey guys

I'd love some advice in relation to the above two cars. My parents are looking around for a new car. My dad has been offered a new 1.6 diesel (not sure of spec) Hyundai i30 for €16900 odd (with scrappage) or a 1.6 diesel Focus for €17100 (again not 100% on the spec but have been told its "high spec", whatever that means). He's been to a dealership for both cars.

I'd be more leaning towards the Focus myself, but thats cos I dont really know the Hyundai. Oh and its the outgoing Focus of course, not sure how much that matters to them though.

Is there anything better out there for the same money (circa 17k plus scrappage)?

They are Dublin based but wouldn't have a problem with a bit of travelling.

They would probably plan to bring the car to France so mileage could be quite substantial (hence thinking a diesel) so I guess that has to remain a consideration.

I dont really see a comparable Skoda for the same price (unless they are knocking huge money off the list prices).

    Thanks in advance.

moneys on the hyundai here, most models have a very good spec, priced keenly, looks great and comes with a monster warranty.

Also for the hyundai, if they are doing Euro tripping, you get 5 years AA cover also with the deal, peace of mind if they are travelling abroad.

another +1 for the i30, although both would be great cars, Hyundai for the warranty though.

I totally agree... I test drove the i330 when it came out in 2008 and regret not buying it. Lovely seats nice drive good spec for basic. Hyundai also have great reliabilityIMO as i owned 2 from new before. New i30 now have 5 year warranty unlimited mileage too. Go for hyundai.......
