    It's probably more.

The government is raising the age of eligibility for the state pension over the next 10 years.

You'll probably have to retire at 68.

At the start it seems to drag but you'll be surpised how quickly it goes by the older you get.

Enough whining, lets cut to the chase here- Are we, or are we not all invited to the retirement party in 40 years time? I'll need to know as soon as possible to see if I can fit it into my busy schedule.

Public servant here with 26 years service.. Could have retired 5 years ago, but why start working for a living at this stage.

Im 32 and I semi retired in 2004 to a self employed job. Went from a whole 3 years of working 8 to 6 to the current setup of working from home, to my own hours with holidays to suit myself. Do I make as much as working 8 to 6? no, not quite but certainly as far as quality of life goes, there is no comparison and the work I now do is relatively interesting too.

Yes the homosexual discussion board is quite educational. Especially the subject of people who make jokes about being gay are therefore uncomfortable with their own sexuality and therefore probably gay.

I absolutly love how public sector workers are bragging about pensions, and private sector workers are jealous.

As if we'll have money to pay for your pensions... honestly I can see it turning to ration stamps.

Courtesy of the Dept of Education's new instructions, it's looking like I shall never be employed.

Never thought I'd have to leave the country but with a Department like that, who needs enemies?!!!

In fairness, a large chunk of a public sector monthly wage goes towards their pension, so they are entitled to it.

I've only got 35 years to retirement OP so all I have to say is "Na na na na na"

Yes, and that money that they are putting in is going straight into the banks/budget/schools et el.

All our funds are gone in what, 6months? Not sure what kind of pensions they're expecting tbh

i've been self-employed all my working life and my private pension doesn't mature until sep 2052 when i'll be 75!!!!!

If it's in their contract and part of their working agreement then it will have to be honoured, so they will have to get it from somewhere.

I know I would be pissed if I spent my life working in the public sector to be told they now couldn't afford to pay me my pension. A few of my friends work in that sector and some have to pay in to 3 pension funds (this may be common knowledge but it's the first I've heard of it).
