Dell HDD Pasword

    My dell XPS Series laptop gives me this message

    Hard disk hard disk # the system primary hdd is protected by a password

    Is it possible just to put in a new hard drive or would this not stop the probem. Been on the phone to dell but its not easy to prove i was the owner as brought this second hand 2 years ago?
    Would my idea of just putting in a new hard drive work or would i come across more problems?

    As far as I know the hdd will never work without the password, If you put a new hdd in it should let you install a new os.

    But if the bios is locked down you might not be able to get it to boot from the cd/disk drive.

    The is a DST "Dell Service Technican" disk that will reset the bios password on all dell pc's. I tried it and it works. you should be able to find it on the net or pm me for it.

    For the hdd password try the top 10 most used passwords list.
