MALIN TO MIZEN MARATHON RELAY IN AID OF CRUMLIN CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Raheny Shamrock athletics club have assembled a crack team of 36 highly experienced marathon runners who are going to cover the 407 mile route in a relay format with each team covering the classic 26.2 mile distance.

Giving this a bump guys, all marathons are certified so it's another to add to your tally. There is a post on runireland here with some info on locations and start times

Just curious...are you "racing" the marathons against the clock, or is it all heading off at fixed start times from each point?

We're not "racing," but we have conservative times in place fgor each leg, as we need to legislate for each subsequent leg and arrange people to be in place at the correct time etc.

Most marathons are hilly enough, the expected times for each leg is anywhere from 3:10 - 3:20 to 4:00, so we can likely fit in most marathoners. This is certainly not for beginners, but I'm sure we can fit in most who have done a couple of marathons and are training regularly.

A sub-3 speedster like you, Robin, would eat it up! Interested?

another note, the start times above and duration between them will give you an idea of the pace each leg will be set at. Slowest is 4:00, fastest is 3:10 (which is Dick Hooper's leg - 2nd last),

I'd noticed that the times allowed for the legs start times were a bit variable so wasn't quite sure how you were approaching the challenge.

Yep next weekend lads, huge prep has been put in and we're putting the finishing touches onto things. It's as much a logistical achievement as an athletic one.

Fundraising going well, we had a table quiz last week and were shaking buckets with club members running on a treadmill in the Ilac all day on Saturday, both events raised over €4,000 combined :)

Link to donate is here, and we're still interested if anyone wants to run a full or half marathon with us. We can accommodative you and offer full safety and support arrangements.

Some photos here (Flickr) and if you can access the FB profile, here.

I didn't make it down for the weekend, but got reports from some runners, seemed an amazing experience - tough for some participants though. Great to see Dick running one of the toughest legs in 2:46 !!

Congrats to all involved, proud of you guys (sniff :D)
