I have a humax hdr foxsat 320 gb for freesat reception.I am very happy with this for the satellite stuff. However my Picnic box has died (as predicted by various people on here)so i now have no irish digital stations.I was wondering if I connect a hd foxt2 (without the hdd)to the hdrfoxsat by usb,can i then record the irish terrestrial stations. If this will work, are there any glaring limitations with this setup?
    Thanks to all on here.

You can't interconnect the boxes like that.

The Humax Fox T2 HD family boxes do work though on Saorview.

You will find that the remotes work for both units. Not really very useful if you think about it. You can alter one of them so they do not do that.

You cannot record to the Humax Foxsat HDR except from the satellite. Would be nice if you could plug in a USB DTT stick, or even record from the Scart, but you cannot I'm afraid.

So if I got the satellite version of the HDR, does that mean it has a DTT tuner so I could record either on the one box?

    Absolutely not.
There is NO single box truly compatible solution. "Generic" Combo boxes can receive via aerial and dish, but only in a basic fashion. A PC with 2x Satellite cards and dual DTT USB stick is more compatible if it has 3rd party or Windows 7 MHEG5 software, but not propperly Freesat compatible. There may be a Combo box that works soon with MHEG5, which is entirely Saorview Compatible and does Interactive text on Freesat. Presently it doesn't work properly.

The Humax Fox T2 HD only for Terrestrial reception (which uses Aerial). Works with: Saorview, Freeview or Freeview HD (Freeview not available in most of Ireland). Can't do Satellite reception at all.

The Humax Foxsat HDR only for Satellite reception (which uses a Dish & LNBF). Works with: Freesat or Freesat HD, both available to all of Ireland. Might work with Saorsat after May or June 2011, but would need a 2nd dish or dual feed and Diseqc switch or Multiswitch. Can't do Terrestrial Reception at all.

IF you want true PVR and virtually full compatibility you need two boxes today. This may change by June 2011.

Thanks, Watty. I'm trying to figure out how much to save up for, and what it is I'll be buying. When June rolls around, where will we find out if it changes, i.e., website, manufacturer announcement?
