I can't decide if i want to go to this. On the one hand, olympics! On the other hand, it really isn't the most exciting thing to watch for £20/£40.
The applications for tickets open this Friday i think.

If you've never been to a large ISSF match before, you want to go to this (or at least the test events in Woolwich). It's not really possible to adaquately describe the sensation of being there. Boring, it ain't. Ask Coronal or ItWasn'tMe how going - even as spectators - to Munich affected how they thought of the sport. I know it completely changed my mindset and outlook on it when I saw my first World Cup (again, only as a spectator).

What exactly are these test events? Do you have to buy tickets or is it open for all?

edit: Stupid question, and one i should really know the answer to, do women not shoot 50m prone?

Test events do need tickets, see this earlier thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056194593

And no, women don't shoot 50m prone in the Olympics, but they do in the World Championships. Women's prone lost out to village size pressures back in the early 70s IIRC.
