Any one do it last year?
Is the route the same as last year?
Just looking for infor before i travel
    as
I missed this race last year, but believe it was one of the best marshalled races of the year, & on good roads, (not like some of the ones we uaually are on,) also seen a photo of the winners bike with the winners trophy on the boards site last year,,,, couldnt believe the size of it, youd nearly fit the bike in it,

The route is the same yes. Straight to the roundabout and back. A proper hammerfest.
Forecast seems to predict rain though.
Blorg won't be winning it this year, he is tackling the lower Himalayas as we speak ;)

He's not trying that Everest Hill Climb is he?

Now that's an idea for the next boards challenge ...

Was thinking of this one as my first open race - what do people reckon. Or am i better waiting for a separate a4 race (lousey weather forecast aside)

even though this is a handicap you should be fine, particularly if you've learned to shelter behind others

A good race to start with, very safe and flat so it will be fast. A4s stayed away last year so i would expect the handicapping will be a lot tighter tomorrow.

How do they calculate the fastest rider prize?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,824 ✭✭✭levitronix

Should that not of been the winner ??? did they have a speed trap set up somewhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,318 ✭✭✭✭Raam

    It wasn't the winner.

Did you win ? " no but i was the fastest ! " haha

Presumably the fastest rider was the first A1 over the line, as they never caught A3/A4 (but did catch A2).

    I think A1/A2 went together.

    Your right Raam.

Here's my garmin stats from today's race. It was a cold one, 3 degress according to the car but it felt colder. Only had the mittens with me today; when I came back from the warm-up, I was freezing .

I went with the A4 group, who had a 3 minute lead on the A3 riders (A4s had 5 minutes lead last year but an A4 rider won it, which obviously not acceptable). The A3s caught up with us fairly quickly and really upped the pace. I thought the route being flat it would be handy to stay in the bunch, but I for one was definitely working to stay there. Even my fingers warmed up!! The snow/hailstone coming on top of us didn't slow it down either.

I finish in the bunch was the extent of my achievement. Like the 30 odd lads in front of me, I was gearing up for the sprint but some poor chap in front of me ended up going on the grass bank and getting a right hop of the fence. I hope he is okay. His bike ended up back on the road and I had to slow down to avoid it; that's my excuse anyway.

Well done to the organisers, great job, thanks. It was very enjoyable. The refreshments afterwards was much appreciated and much needed after the coldness endured during the race!!

333mph and you still didn't win the fastest rider prize:eek:

The A4 to A3 gap was 2 mins, then a further 4 mins to A1/2.

Darragh Mortimer (3rd) is a strong roadie, as well as a strong mtber, and has been racing road for years. Max (7th) rode his first road race 3 weeks ago so a pretty impressive performance!

Went with a plan, try to attack as much as possible tried 7 times on way pout nothing stuck maybe conditions weren't right though. Proably tried too hard and really suffered for a while on way back with entire upper body shaking. Really feeling the cold these days beng 2 & 1/2 stone lighter than ny rugby days is making a difference.

Felt better towards the end despite myself and Staro going the correct bu log way round a round about and going from top 20 to back of pack. Made up places and lovely wide finish snuck in 9th and first A3. Two of the other lads from the club attacked loads too and it was good to be active during the race so hopefully something will stick eventually.
