Hey there folks having a problem trying to boot up my brothers laptop every time i try start the computer it asks for the hdd password then start up repair starts ive left this running for 12 hours and its still attempting to fix disk errors.
At this stage I dont care if I have to do a full system restore but im having trouble actually starting this process, hitting F8 on start up gives me access to the following

Repair your computer (I tried this for 3 hours yesterday afternoon with no change)

Safe Mode (Tried this deosnt even get to login page)
Safe Mode With Netwoking (Same as above)
Safe Mode With Command Prompt (As Above)

Enable Boot Logging (this begins disk error repair but never finishes)
Enable Low Resolution (Cant login/loads indefinitely)
Last Known Good Configuration (changes nothing)
Directory Service Restore mode (Begins disk repair)
    Debugging Mode ( As Above)
Disable Automatic restart on system failure (No Change)
Disable Driver Signature Enforcement (No Change/start up repair)

Star Windows Normally (Either I see the desktop then nothing or star up repair starts and fixes disk errors indefinitely)

    System Specs

    Toshiba Satellite L450D-11W
    7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery) and
    AMD Athlon™ X2 Dual-Core Processor QL-65
    DVD-RW SuperMulti drive (Double Layer)
    4096 MB (2048 +2048) DDR2 RAM (800MHZ)
    ATI Radeon™ HD 3200 Graphics

Sorry I cant give you more but I dont know the rest any ideas?

Sounds alot like the hd shot,if you can get a Linux live CD boot the laptop from the CD drive and see if Linux can mount the hd.It should let you know if said hd is dead.

And you should be able to recover your stuff if you can mount it with a linux live disk too. I'd do this before running any diagnostics tbh.

    Download it here http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

    It's free.

And if you don't have any cd's to burn it too you can use a usb stick. Although the method of setting up the usb stick is a little bit more complicated.

Nice work. Now click on the "locations" tab and see if you can see your hard drive. You should be able to see it and access it. If so, i'd start to take everything important off of it and store it on a usb stick or something.

Theres nothing really worth keeping everything he needs is already backed up so i want to try a full restore but ive never used ubuntu before is there anything like this on it?

and thanks for all your help really appreciate it :D

Edit: Ok after having a root through Ubuntu I cant see my hard drive but using the Disk Utility porgram I ran across this

    Current Pending Sector
    Count Warning Normalized 198
    Worst 198
    Threshold 0
    Value 149 sectors

think this might be the problem? What does this mean?

Edit:Hard Drive Temprature: 39C/102F seems high!

Final Edit:It turns out laptop is still under warranty
