iPhone 3GS loses WiFi

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and what the implications are. When I'm at home, I almost always leave my 3GS connected to my WiFi. I notice though that when I unlock the phone to use it for something, the WiFi is icon always takes a second or two to re-appear.

I thought one of the recent iOS updates meant the WiFi connection would stay on even when the phone is locked.

My reason for asking is that I'm thinking about using Skype for more of my calls in which case it would need to be running via the WiFi. I don't really want the WiFi signal to drop off when the phone is locked and Skype start eating up my credit by using the 2G phone signal.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

if ya have it jailbroken install sbsettings and turn on the data toggle, when you're at home just turn off data

ya can still turn it off if its not jb but it'll just take a little longer, settings>general>network>cellular data network nd turn off data
