Have heard announcements this morning on the radio that they are recuiting nationwide. Branch/IT/Admin staff etc. But when I go to their website/irishjobs, its nearly all links for sales reps, barr one Admin role in Dublin. Anyone know where these other roles are being advertised or if they have been released yet?

Sometimes these announcements annoy me. 30 of the positions announced seem to be already filled with the other 120 positions becoming available "over the coming months"

I'm looking for the positions now and can't really find them? Maybe the jobs don't exist yet?

I dare say that the bulk of the jobs will be the self employed sales rep jobs, no sales no cash, no skin off their nose either. A cheap way to get some good publicity i suppose.

Looking at the current positions, it looks that way.

I thing in the current market this is a plain attempt to gain publicity.

The truth about Acorn is that they are constantly recruiting for sales people. Now dont get your hopes up please the reason is sales people do no stay around for long.

Their business model is to take anyone on who has a pulse, give them very basic training in products/sales, and then sit them down to compose a list of 100 people

You start with immediate family, and work outwards. Them school mates, College mates, members of social clubs, neighbours and so on.

Once you have a list of 100 people you are told thats your customer list, so ring them all, make an appointment and sell them a product.

average time a sales person stays with Acorn is measured in months.

It is mentioned above also, no salary, commission only so no sales no income.

I'd be interested in hearing more on this. Has anyone heard anything positive or longterm on these "financial advisor" roles?

From looking at their website I wouldn't be filled with too much hope, it seems to be very much the case of "We train you, now go get us money" without anything solid

I got called ro arrange an interview with them, the job description was very vague so I starting asking about the job.

Your classed as being self employed.(look after your own tax)
    100 % commission.
No expenses for your car or petrol.
You could make up to €40,000 a year but yet their not prepared to offer a basic.

Told him I wasn't going to waste their time with an interview, and I'd be very wary of any Acron sales reps trying to sell anything.

Why don't they announce that they have 200 new jobs, its not going to cost them anything more than a quick interview.

My Father (Lord have mercy on him) who was a Life Underwriter for an Insurance Company in the states for 40 years, had a saying for the kind of recruiting that companies with direct sales forces, such as Acorn Life utilise...."Hire them in masses, stick them in classes, and kick their asses!" That's what you have to look forward to with that kind of "JOB"! better of on the dole!!

    There is a saying that '' life insurance isn't bought - it's sold ''.
Tough job and one of the most obnoxious practices is that of the salespeople being pressured to pursue family and friends for a sale - make no mistake about it this job can cost you friendships.
I once worked in admin for a life insurer and can say that in the current climate sales will be very hard to make and the lapse rate of sales that will be made is going to be sky high - very hard to make a living.

Crap job overall and not something to recommend.

Amen to that! And yes, the "project family and friends" is not only embarrassing, it's soul-destroying as well, especially when you have run out of family/friends to pester for a sale and are being put under daily pressure by the Manager to sell! sell! sell!
