Had a puncture on the way to work this morning (right at the door), thought it would be the usual 5 min fix job at lunch.

However having problems as the new airwave tubes i got from CRC (presta valve), wont go up. Have the lezyne alloy drive medium hand pump which screws on. Have opened the presta valve a little screwed on but its just not going up.

    what is this idiot missing?

Could it be that when screwing the pump on, it is causing the valve to close?

I have the Lezyne Road Drive and the couple of times that I've used it I found it a bit fiddly to screw the hose onto the valve properly. If you hear air escaping at the valve as you pump then then the hose may not be screwing on properly there. If you feel a lot of resistance as you pump, then it's quite possible that the valve has closed while screwing on the hose as jimm suggests.

I have sometimes found that the valves on new tubes are a bit sticky. Unscrew it fully then push it in slightly to free it up.

+1 , see also if you can get air into the tube with your mouth (to see if the valve is working)

This sounds like it, the air isnt going in just blowing out the sides really. will give it another few tries but everything i ve tried seems to close it.

Any chance you sliced the tube as you installed it, or had it a pre-existing cut?
Had a puncture myself this a.m., so you have my sympathy. Needed help from a passer-by (thanks Brian) to pull the Armadillo back on, my frozen fingers were useless.

Back already you were correct, thanks, the screw top was just rigidly stuck and not letting air in. pushed it down after unscrewing it fully and no issue now. happy days.

thanks lads, pity im an idiot. cant believe in all the punctures i ve had that only came up now. guess all tubes, valaves etc are slightly different
