    Wrong.

When the air flow meter fails, usually the engine drops in power.

@OP as said above, I'm more than sure that it's the crank sensor.

Well...I drive italian motors all my life. Had alfa 166 and had exactly the same problem that op has. Mechanic gave two options - airflow meter and crank sensor. It was airflow meter on mine.

And yeah, mr IknoweverythingevenIneverhadanyalfainmylife, my alfa didnt loose any power at all when the airflowmeter was broken. Just didn't stat or cut the engine off after a while.

Hi op, I had two 156's and I had same problems with both. Certainly the crankshaft sensor. My engine management lights never lit up when mine went. These particular sensors always go in alfas... It's terribly annoying.

Where are you? If you're around Cork PM me.

If it's the crankySensor then it's an easy job... one 5mm Allen bolt holding it on.... I can forward picts... Oh and you'll have to get on your back.. :)

Funny I've had 2 156s, and managed to put 150,000 miles on them without having a crank sensor fail. Sensors can fail on any cars; they don't always.
