Just found out my Sony is not compatible for DTT. I've got sound but no picture. I would also like to know if anyone knows where I could buy a STB in Cork.

Two requests from people who want to know where to buy electrical goods in our two largest cities?
Get out & have a look around!

Two requests from people on a forum where they know they can get the information they need, from people who are willing to help. Whats wrong with that?

I now know where I can go to buy one when I have the time.

If they had been looking for cheaper alternatives to certified boxes (all over this forum btw) or links to online vendors, fair enough; but 'I can't be bothered to look around a few shops in my own town' doesn't do it for me.
God forbid they might find something interesting to share with other forum members.

To be honest Vince, if you have nothing constructive to say.... etc

I dont blame Thrill or doseire for asking these questions - the sad fact is there are very few places that actually deal with this technology- most company's haven't got a clue about what saorview really is - I once heard a sales person in a well known high street outlet tell a perspective user there is no digital tv in ireland and there wont be for the foreseeable future. That was only 4 months ago....

To answer your questions i reckon the only City Center shop in Dublin that sells DTT boxes would be maplin. Last i checked they had one compatable box ie HD MPEG4, DVB-T, but no MHEG 5 so its not compatible with the digital teletext or any red button features.

Slightly outside the City Center youll find freesat.ie who specialize in FTA gear for Satellite and DTT...

Buying on the web seems the best choice for now...

    http://www.satellite.ie/
    http://www.freesat.ie/
    http://www.satellitetv.ie

The above some of the online stores i know about -

As for cork, i genuinely havent been there in years so wouldnt know where to start...
Of course if your going up north any of the Freeview HD boxes are compatible with our service-

Sic semper tyrannis - thus always to Tyrants

The Maplin Yamada is overpriced by x2 and costs SAME as a Certified box. It's only partially working for Saorview. No MHEG5, and since there is no 3rd party certified spec, we don't know what other surprises it might have later.

The only actual viable nearly compatible alternative are "Freeview HD".

Also most people never heard of Walker, nor know where to buy them if they have heard. The questions were very reasonable.

It's questions that make a site work, not sharing. The Sharing comes 2nd.

Thanks for all the helpful replies, I picked a box up in powercity today.
To vince, I did know powercity stocked the walker box, however last time I checked there are no powercity shops in the city centre. I knew the maplin box would not cover my needs longterm. So I asked simply if there was any shop in the cc that I could pop out to at lunch to grab one. And I had already tried a few with no success . Sorry if you feel I wasted your time in reading my request.

Did you get sorted? I bought mine Powercity online and was impressed with nice prompt delivery - I'm in cork and I wouldn't known where to get one before this thread.
