Post Root canal question

I just had a root canal 4 days ago. I was told the infection had gone into the bone & was given antibiotics to take if I got swollen or very sore over the weekend. The dentist said 9 times out of 10 the body can fight it off on its own. I haven't needed to take the antibiotics thankfully. But I was wondering how much discomfort is considered normal after root canal. I've had a sinus headache since I've had it. I'm not looking for medical advice, I have a follow up appointment with my dentist in a few days.
Just wondering what I should be expecting the days after root canal.

did you have the first stage done or the whole lot? does your head hurt when you bend down?

I had the whole lot done, yeah my head & face hurt most movements I do with my head. Now it's not a really serious pain or anything, just lingering.

sounds like sinusitis then. fluid moving about irritating everything. should be ok with sudafed if needed. you'll find out for def at your follow up anyway.

Sorry to jump on your thread here OP, but I've a similar question.

I had the initial stage of a root canal done on a rear tooth yesterday, wasn't too bad at all, but last night & today I'm in agony, literally one of the worst pains I've ever experienced. Pain killers aren't even denting it. Touching the tooth in anyway gives the most extraordinary flashes of pain.

I had an abscess under the tooth and they had to cut some gum tissue away to get at the root.

Is this level of pain to be expected?

Is it unusual for a dentist to do a root canal in two vists? Obviously it could be down to appointments etc but I got mine done in one sitting. My brother had his done in two and did experience some discomfort during the interval as well, so I'd imagine this could be relatively normal.

Oh if I took Sudafed I'd be climbing the walls!!!
Is it normal though to have headaches after a root canal? I might add it was a top pre molar.
    Thanks for your response :)

depends on the dentist. some like to do it in one go, others can spend more than a few, depending how tricky it gets.

twould be rare enough. too tricky to blame root canal if you have sinusitis at the moment too. give it some time.

if the infection is pretty severe then the dressing may be like the proverbial pissing in the wind. you may need antibiotics to knock it on the head but better to go back to the dentist and see. are you sure you had gum cut away? or was it definitely a root canal and not an extraction?
